Factorise the following expression.

4x2 − 8x + 4

Solution

4x− 8x + 4

= (2x)2 − 2 (2x) (2) + (2)2

= (2x − 2)2 [(a − b)2 

= a2 − 2ab + b2]

= [(2) (x − 1)]2 

= 4(x − 1)

= 4(x − 1) (x − 1)
