Find the solution of the linear equation x + 2y = 8 which represents a point on y-axis.

Solution

The linear equation which lies on the y-axis has its abscissa 0.

Now, Putting x = 0 in the equation x + 2y = 8, we get:

x + 2y = 8

0 + 2y = 8

`y = 8/2`

y = 4
