Question
Find the value of x for which the expression `x/(5) + 2 "and" x/(3) - 4` are equal.
Sum
Solution
We are to find the value of x for which the two expressions are equal:
i.e., `x/(5) + 2 = x/(3) - 4`
⇒ `x/(5) - x/(3)` = -2 - 4
⇒ Taking LCM,
`(3x - 5x)/(15)` = -6
⇒`(-2x)/(15)` = -6
On Cross - multiplying, we get:
2x = 15 x 6
⇒ x = 45.
