Question

Find trinomial (quadratic expression), given below, find whether it is factorisable or not. Factorise, if possible.
3x2 + 4x - 10

Sum

Solution

Given expression : 3x2 + 4x - 10
Comparing with ax2 + bx + c, we get a = 3, b = 4, and c = -10
∴ b2 - 4ac = (4)2 - 4(3)(-10) = 16 + 120 = 136, which is not a perfect square.
∴ 3x2 + 4x - 10 is not factorisable.
