Give a geographical reason for the following:

Chennai receives less rain than Thiruvananthapuram although it has more rainy days.

Thiruvananthapuram, located on the western side of the Western Ghats, receives substantial rainfall from the South West monsoon, whereas Chennai, located on the leeward side, receives less rainfall from the North East monsoon. Thiruvananthapuram receives some rain from the receding Monsoon.
