Question
Give a geographical reason for the following:
Most parts of India receive rainfall between June and September.
Short Note
Solution
During summer, the monsoon winds flow towards the subcontinent due to differences in temperature between land and sea surface. This creates a strong low pressure system in the north-western Indian subcontinent. After crossing the Equator, the S.E. Trade winds are deflected to the right by Coriolis force, forming the South West Monsoon and reaching the west coast. These winds cause severe downpour, thunder, and lightning.
