  1. The Punjab-Haryana Plain has fertile alluvial soil formed by the perennial Himalayan Rivers.
  2. Here, plenty of water is available for irrigation through canals and tube-wells. Climate is also well suited for the Kharif and rabi crops.
  3. Because of these favourable conditions, the region produces a huge marketable surplus of food grains.
  4. Agricultural researchers and enterprising farmers have ensured prosperous agriculture in the region through Green revolution since 1970s.
  5. Thus, the Punjab-Haryana Plain has become a granary of India.
