Give some information about the efforts taken by India for the establishment of democracy in neighbouring countries with examples.

Efforts by India to establish democracy:
- Bangladesh - India helped Bangladesh in its freedom struggle. Bangladesh was formed in 1971. India freed East Pakistan from the domination of West Pakistan which led to the emergence of Bangladesh with a democratic government.
- Afghanistan - India has aided Afghanistan in matters of security, development and health to establish democracy, freeing itself from the terrorist organization of the Taliban.
- Sri Lanka - India sent a peacekeeping force to Sri Lanka when there was a political conflict between the Tamils and their government.
- Bhutan - India bears the responsibility of the defence of Bhutan. Bhutan has a huge source of water. India has cooperated in the project to produce hydel power on a large scale using this source.
- India has also tried to strengthen the democracy of countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives by helping them in many ways.
