Question

Given 3x + 2y + 4 = 0
(i) express the equation in the form y = mx + c
(ii) Find the slope and y-intercept of the line 3x + 2y + 4 = 0

Solution

(i)

3x + 2y + 4 = 0
2y = −3x − 4
y =-3/2(x − 2)
This is of the form y = mx + c.

(ii)

Slope = m =`-3/2`

y-intercept = c = -2
