Solution

First aid is the immediate help given to a person who is injured or suddenly falls ill before professional medical assistance arrives. It can save lives, prevent conditions from worsening, and promote recovery.

  1. Antiseptic Solution (e.g., Dettol, Savlon): Cleans wounds to prevent infection. Apply a small amount to a clean cotton swab and gently clean the wound.

  2. Cotton and Sterile Gauze: For cleaning wounds and stopping bleeding. Press gently on the wound to absorb blood or clean dirt. Wrap gauze around the wound after cleaning.

  3. Adhesive Bandages (band-aids): Covers minor cuts and scrapes. Place the bandage over the wound after cleaning it.

  4. Antiseptic Ointment (e.g., Neosporin): Prevents infection and promotes healing. Apply a thin layer over the cleaned wound before covering it with a bandage.

  5. Scissors: Cuts gauze, bandages, or tape. Use carefully to avoid accidental injuries.

  6. Tweezers: Removes splinters, glass, or dirt from the skin. Sterilize with alcohol wipes before using to avoid infections.

  7. Thermometer: Checks body temperature. Place under the tongue or in the armpit, depending on the type of thermometer.

  8. Elastic Bandage (e.g., Crepe Bandage): Provides support for sprains and reduces swelling. Wrap it snugly around the injured joint, ensuring it’s not too tight.

  9. Cold Pack/Ice Pack: Reduces swelling, bruises, and pain. Wrap the ice pack in a cloth and apply to the injured area for 10-15 minutes.

  10. Alcohol Wipes: Disinfect the skin or tools like tweezers. Wipe the area or tool thoroughly before use.

  11. Pain Relievers (e.g., Paracetamol, Ibuprofen): Alleviates mild pain, fever, or headaches. Administer under adult supervision and according to the dosage instructions.

  12. Splint or Sling: Immobilizes broken or sprained limbs. Place the splint along the injured limb and secure it with a bandage. Use a sling to support the arm if needed.

  13. Gloves: Protects the first aider from infections while handling wounds. Wear them before touching wounds or handling blood.
