Question
How is Democracy a better form of government in comparison to dictatorship? Explain.
Solution
Democracy is a better form of government when compared with dictatorship or any other alternative. We felt that democracy was better because it:
- Democracy Promotes equality among citizens: In a democratic society, the people's freely expressed will is carried out, and fundamental freedoms and human rights are upheld. People have the power to sway decisions and hold decision-makers accountable. Equal rights are granted to men and women, and discrimination is prohibited. In countries with dictatorships, these rights are not available.
- Democracy Enhances the Dignity of the Individual: Democracies promote individual freedom and dignity far more than any other type of government. The foundation of democracy is a deep-seated love of liberty and respect.
- Democracy improves the quality of decision-making: In a democracy, the most important thing is to ensure the people have the power to select their leaders and hold them accountable. Citizens should be allowed to participate in decisions that affect them whenever possible and appropriate.
- Democracy provides a method to resolve conflicts: Democracies typically create a process for their elections. This lessens the likelihood that these tensions will escalate or result in violence. Any society cannot completely and permanently resolve conflicts between various groups. However, we can develop methods to negotiate the differences as well as learn to respect these differences. The best system to achieve this goal is democracy.
- Democracy is based on the idea of deliberation: Non-democratic leaders are not required to worry about public opinion or majority votes in assemblies. Therefore, They can make decisions and put them into action quickly and effectively. Democracy is built on deliberation and negotiation, so there will inevitably be some delay, and decisions may be more agreeable and efficient.
