Question

If (3x - 9) : (5x + 4) is the triplicate ratio of 3 : 4, find the value of x.

Sum

Solution

We have,

`(3"x" - 9)/(5"x" + 4) = 3^3/4^3`

⇒ `(3"x" - 9)/(5"x" + 4) = 27/64`

⇒ `(3("x" - 3))/(5"x" + 4) = 27/64`

⇒ `("x" - 3)/(5"x" + 4) = 9/64`

⇒ 64x - 192 = 45x + 36

⇒ 19x = 228

⇒ x = 12
