Question

If A = {2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}, determine the truth value of the following statement.

∃ x ∈ A, such that x + 3 < 11.

Sum

Solution

For x = 2, x + 3 = 2 + 3 = 5 < 11.

∴ x = 2 satisfies the equation x + 3 < 11.

∴ The given statement is true.
