Question
If half a meter of cloth costs ₹ 15. Find the cost of `8 1/3` meters of the same cloth
Solution
Let the cost of cloth required be x.
Cost of cloth in ₹ | 15 | x |
Length of cloth in meters | `1/2` | `8 1/3 = 25/3` |
Cost and length are in direct proportion.
∴ `(x_1)/(y_1) = (x_2)/(y_2), 15/(1/2) = x/(25/3)`
`15 xx 25/3 = x xx 1/2`
`x xx 1/2` = 125
x = 125 × 2
x = 250
∴ Cost of `8 1/3` m of cloth = ₹ 250.
