Question

If p = −2, q = −1 and r = 3, find the value of p4 + q4 − r4

Sum

Solution

p4 + q4 − r4
Substituting p = -2, q = -1 and r = 3 in the given expression:

\[( - 2 )^4 + ( - 1 )^4 - (3 )^4 \]
\[ = ( - 2 \times - 2 \times - 2 \times - 2) + ( - 1 \times - 1 \times - 1 \times - 1) - (3 \times 3 \times 3 \times 3)\]\[ = 16 + 1 - 81\]
\[ = - 64\]
