Question
If we take 4 rounds around a field that is 160 m long and 90 m wide, what is the distance we walk in kilometers?
Solution
Perimeter of a rectangular field
= 2 x length + 2 x breadth
= 2 x 160 + 2 x 90
= 320 + 180
= 500 m
In one round, distance walked is 500 m; hence, distance walked in 4 rounds.
= 500 x 4 = 2000 m
= 2 km
∴ The distance walked in 4 rounds is 2 km.
