Question

If (x + 3) : (4x + 1) is the duplicate ratio of 3 : 5, find the value of x.

Sum

Solution

If (x + 3) : (4x + 1) is the duplicate ratio of 3 : 5

Find the value of x.

We have,

`(x + 3)/(4x + 1) = 3^2/5^2`

`\implies (x + 3)/(4x + 1) = 9/25`

`\implies` 25x + 75 = 36x + 9

`\implies` 11x = 66

`\implies` x = 6
