Question

In a plant, tranalocation in xylem is unidirectional while in phloem it is bidirectional. Explain.

Short Note

Solution

Leaves carry out photosynthesis and act as a source of food for plants during growth. The phloem supplies food from source to sink and the food stored in the sink is transported toward the growing buds through the phloem during the spring season. So phloem shows the bidirectional movement of food but the transport of water in the xylem is from root to leaves only so the transport in xylem is unidirectional.
