Question
In India, why is the day temperature maximum in May and why not after the summer solstice?
Solution
The main cause behind temperature being highest in May is due to the summer solstice. At that time, the sun's rays are overhead the tropic of cancer (23.5°N). Tropic of Cancer passes through the middle of India. But it remains till the end of May in India. It is because rain starts on the Malabar coast at the end of May. Due to this, the temperature does not increase in South India. Although the increase in temperature continues in India till 21 June and, we find the highest temperature in the first week of June in India.
