Question
List any five freestyle events in swimming.
Solution
Freestyle races are the most popular type of swimming competition. They range from 50 metres (50 yards) to 1500 metres (1650 yards), which is also called the mile. "Freestyle stroke" is sometimes used to mean "front crawl", which is the fastest stroke for swimming on the surface.
In swimming, the five freestyle events are:
- Freestyle Start: Swimmers should develop the habit of putting their feet in the starting position as soon as they step onto the block. Swimmers should focus their hearing and reflexes on the start signal when they assume the mark position. That signal is the only thing in the world for that brief moment.
- Butterfly Starts: With the exception of using a butterfly kick exclusively, the butterfly start is essentially the same as for freestyle. Avoid returning to the surface at an excessively steep angle as this will reduce your forward speed.
- Backstroke Starts: It's imperative that swimmers lift out of the water during the backstroke start. If not, they will typically give their rivals a lead of at least half a body length. To enable a rapid release, the hands are positioned widely apart from the starting handles, with the thumbs resting over the top of the bar.
- Breaststroke Starts: The freestyle and butterfly start dives will be the same. There isn't any kicking into the water, though, unlike with the other strokes. Swimmers, on the other hand, perform a single butterfly pull with their hands finishing by the sides and hold this position until they sense a decline in speed. They then repeat this position until they sense the same decline in speed.
- The front crawl: The front crawl is also known as freestyle, as it is the most commonly used stroke in freestyle events. This is because it is the quickest and most efficient of all strokes.
