Question
Madhu’s room measures 6 m × 3 m. Her carpet covers 8 m2. What per cent of floor is covered by the carpet?
Solution
Given, Madhu’s room measured = 6 m × 3 m
Also, her carpet covers = 8 m2
Need to find out percentage of floor covered by the carpet
⇒ Area of the room = 6 × 3 = 18 m2
⇒ Now, Area covered by the carpet in percentage = `"Area covered by carpet"/"Area of the room" xx 100`
⇒ Area covered by the carpet in percentage = `8/18 xx 100`
= `800/18`
= 44.44%
Hence, area covered by the carpet in percentage is 44.44%
