Question
Mr Sharma goes from Kolkata to Chennai to buy a car. It is available at 12% less price at Chennai than at Kolkata. But he incurs Rs. 9000 as overhead expenses to buy the car from Chennai. He sells the car at Kolkata at its cost price and make a profit of 10%. Find price of the car at Kolkata.
Solution
Let C.P. of the car at Kolkata be Rs. x.
As the car is available at 12% less price at Chennai,
C.P. of the car at Chennai
= `(1 - 12/100)` of Rs. x
= Rs.`(22)/(25)xx`
Since he incurs Rs.9000 as overhead expenses,
total C.P. of the car
= Rs. `(22/25 xx + 9000)`
By selling the car at Kolkata for Rs. x, he makes a profit of 10%
∴ Rs. x = `(1 + 10/100) "of Rs."(22/55 xx + 9000)`
⇒ x = `(11)/(10)(22/25 xx + 9000)`
⇒ `(10)/(11) xx = (22)/(25) xx + 9000`
⇒ `(10)/(11) xx = (22)/(25) xx = 9000`
⇒ `(8)/(275) xx = 9000`
⇒ x = `(275 xx 9000)/(8)`
⇒ x = Rs.309375.
