 गद्यांशं पठित्वा सरलार्थं लिखत।

वैखानसः	(राजानम् अवरुध्य) राजन् ! आश्रममृगोऽयं, न हन्तव्यः, न हन्तव्यः। आशु प्रतिसंहर सायकम्। राज्ञां शस्त्रम् आर्तत्राणाय भवति न तु अनागसि प्रहर्तुम्।
दुष्यन्तः	प्रतिसंहृत एष: सायक:। (यथोक्तं करोति)

Vaikhanasa	(Obstructing the king): O master, this is hermitage-deer. It is not right to kill it. It should not be hunted. Withhold the arrow at once. King's weapon is meant for protection of distressed folk; and not for assaulting innocent beings.
Dushyanta	Here, I have withheld the arrow. (He does, as promised.)
