Answer in Brief
Solution
The two components of the food security system in India are Buffer stock and the public distribution system.
- Buffer Stock:
It is the stock of food grains (wheat and rice) procured by the government through the Food Corporation of India (FCI). It is used to distribute food grain in the deficit areas and among the poorer strata of society at a price lower than the market price. This, the stock is also used during natural calamities such as drought or earthquakes. - Public Distribution System: The food produced by the FCI is distributed through government-regulated ration shops among the poorer section of the society. This is called the Public Distribution System.
