Question
Name any two conventional methods of irrigation.
Answer in Brief
Solution
Modern irrigation methods which are highly scientific. Some of the important ones are as below:
- Furrow Irrigation: This method of flood irrigation directs water to flow into small channels between crop rows, rather than equally distributing it throughout the field.
- Spray Irrigation: Spray irrigation systems use a long hose connected to a water source on one side and spray guns on the other to deliver water into the area.
- Drip Irrigation: is the most modern and effective method of irrigation. This technology irrigates fruits and vegetables by placing perforated pipes between rows or burying them along their root lines. Water is supplied directly to the crops, reducing evaporation and helping conserve irrigation water. Drip irrigation enables farmers to tailor irrigation schedules for certain crops.
- Sprinkler Irrigation: This form of irrigation uses a pipe with a nozzle to spray water directly on plants. The approach is commonly known as 'overhead irrigation'.
