Solution
In the early phase of Nationalist Movement many newspapers were published in different parts of the country. These included Amrit Bazar Patrika, the Hindu, the Kesari. Lord Lytton had imposed censorship when the Vernacular Press Act came into force. There were as many as 62 newspapers with a combined circulation of around 1,00,000. The Vernacular Press Act created bitter feelings among the readers and publishers alike. When the censorship was lifted they infused a spirit of patriotism and nationalism in the people. Among the literary books notable were Bankim Chandra’s Anandamath, Bharatendu Harish Chandra’s Bharat Durdasa, Rabindranath Tagore and Sarat Chandra Chatterjee wrote in Bengali, Bharatendu Harish Chandra in Hindi, Vishnu Shastri Chiplunkar in Marathi, Altaf Husain in Hindi, Subramanya Bharati in Tamil, Laxmi Kanta Bezbarua in Assamese.
