In the detritus food chain, the dead remains of plant and animals or their excreta are broken down by detrivores and the organic and inorganic substances are returned back to the environment. Thus maintaining die company of various biogeochemical cycles. Also, Microbes growing on detritus makes the soil nutritious for consumers.
