Short Answer

Solution

  1. Name of the festival: Diwali
  2. When it is celebrated: It is celebrated every autumn between October and November.
  3. Why it is celebrated: Diwali is a holiday in South India celebrating the day that Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. In northern India, rows of clay lamps are lit in honor of the tale of King Rama's return to Ayodhya following his victory over Ravana.
  4. How it is celebrated: Along with their homes and places of employment, people also clean and decorate temples. Candles and oil lamps are used to brighten the surroundings, and devotional offerings, or puja, are made. Additionally, people frequently wear jewellery and brand-new, elegant clothing or cleanse themselves with water and aromatic oils. Families may plan feasts where gifts and sweets (mithai) are exchanged. Many towns, cities, and villages host fairs (melas) and light fireworks in the evening.
  5. Special cuisine: Samosa, aloo bunda, gulab jamun, sooji halwa, murukku, namak pare, gajar ka halwa, gujiya, kalakand, batasha, rasgulla, soan papdi, etc.
  6. Other special features: People dress to the nines, light fireworks, worship Lakshmi, the goddess of riches and prosperity, light diyas and rangoli to light up the inside and outside of their homes, and give gifts and mithai (sweets) during family feasts during Diwali.
