Question
Outline your role as an active citizen in relation to sanitation.
Answer in Brief
Solution
Wastewater treatment is an expensive treatment. Building and maintaining wastewater treatment plants needs significant infrastructure. It is imperative that we become active citizens and restrict the type of garbage created. We can take the following steps:
- Using better housekeeping techniques, such as dumping cooking oil and fats, chemicals like paints and pharmaceuticals, used tea leaves, cotton, food remnants, and so on into a trashcan rather than draining.
- Litter should not be scattered in public spaces. If there is no dustbin nearby, we should carry the litter home and dispose of it properly.
- We should notify municipal officials about the open drains, leaking pipelines, uncovered manholes, and so on.
- We should follow the 3Rs rule, which stands for reduce, reuse, and recycle.
- We should raise awareness and encourage community practices to keep our environment clean.
