1. The energy pyramid represents a successive energy flow at each trophic level in an ecosystem. There is a gradual decrease in energy transfer at successive trophic levels from producers to higher levels, hence the pyramid of energy is always upright.
2. All creatures rely on plants for nourishment, either directly as herbivorous species do or indirectly as carnivorous animals do.
3. Due to this reason, the pyramid of energy is always upright and never inverted.
