Let G1, G2, G3, G4 be four geometric means between a = 3 and b = 96.
Then, 3, G1, G2, G3, G4, 96 is a G.P.
Thus, we have
First term = a = 3
6th term of the G.P. = ar5 = 96
⇒ 3 x r5 = 96
⇒ r5 = 32
⇒ r5 = 25
⇒ r = 2
∴ G1 = ar = 3 x 2 = 6
G2 = ar2 = 3 x 4 = 12
G3 = ar3 = 3 x 8 = 24
G4 = ar4 = 3 x 16 = 48
