Summary of the Titanic Incident

On the night of April 14, 1912, the Titanic was sailing smoothly across the Atlantic Ocean. The sky was clear, and the sea was calm. Most of the passengers were asleep. Captain Smith knew about icebergs in the area, so he asked a lookout to keep watch.

At 11:40 PM, the lookout spotted a huge iceberg directly in the ship’s path. He shouted a warning, and the captain tried to steer the ship away. However, the Titanic scraped the iceberg, and ice fell on the decks. Soon, water started flooding the lower decks of the ship.

The crew lowered lifeboats into the sea, but there were not enough boats for all the passengers. As the ship tilted, many people jumped into the freezing water. At 2:20 AM on April 15, the Titanic sank completely. More than 1,500 people drowned or died from the cold.

The Carpathia arrived at 3:40 AM and rescued about 700 survivors. The disaster led to stricter safety rules, requiring ships to have enough lifeboats and working radios 24/7 for emergencies.
