- Members of SAARC signed the SAFTA Agreement in 2004. It went into effect on January 1, 2006, and is meant to create a free trade zone in South Asia. By supporting free trade and lowering trade tariffs, it could help bring peace and cooperation to the area.
- Even though things are tense between India and Pakistan, the leaders have talked several times to work on building trust. Many bus routes have been built between the two countries, which has led to a lot more trade between the Punjab areas over the years.
