Question
Solve the following equations for x and give, in each case, your answer correct to two decimal places :
`x^2 - 16x + 6 = 0`
Solution
`x^2 - 16x + 6 = 0`
Here a = 1, b = -16 and c = 6
`x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)`
`= (-(-16) +- sqrt((-16)^2 - 4(1)(6)))/(2(1))`
`= (16 +- sqrt232)/2 = (16 +- 15.231)/2` = 15.616 and 0.384
