Question
Solve the following equation.
`(3y)/2 + (y + 4)/4 = 5 - (y - 2)/4`
Sum
Solution
`(3y xx 2)/(2 xx 2) + (y + 4)/4 = 5 - (y - 2)/4`
`(6y)/4 + (y + 4)/4 = 5 - (y - 2)/4`
`(6y)/4 xx 4 + (y + 4)/4 xx 4`
= `5 xx 4 - (y - 2)/4 xx 4` ...(Multiplying both sides by 4)
∴ 6y + y + 4 = 20 – (y – 2)
∴ 7y + 4 = 20 – y + 2
∴ 7y + 4 = 22 – y
∴ 7y + 4 – 4 = 22 – y – 4 …..[Subtracting 4 from both sides]
∴ 7y = 18 – y
∴ 7y + y = 18 – y + y …[Adding y on both sides]
∴ 8y = 18
∴ y = `9/4`
