Question
Solve the following equation and verify the answer:
`2x-1/2=3`
Solution
`2x-1/2=3`
⇒ `2x −1/2 + 1/2 = 3 + 1/2` [Adding `1/2` on both the sides]
⇒ `2x = (6+1)/2`
⇒ `2x = 7/2`
⇒ `(2x)/2= 7/(2 × 2)` [Dividing both the sides by 3]
⇒ x = `7/4`
Verification:
Substituting x = `7/4` in the L.H.S.:
`2(7/4)−1/2`
`=7/2−1/2=6/2=3=`R.H.S.
L.H.S. = R.H.S.
Hence, verified.
