2x2 – 8x – 24 = 0 when x∈I
Solution
2x2 – 8x – 24 = 0
⇒ x2 – 4x – 12 = 0 ...(Dividing by 2)
⇒ x2 – 6x + 2x – 12 = 0
⇒ x (x – 6) + 2 (x – 6) = 0
⇒ (x – 6) (x + 2) = 0
Either x – 6 = 0, then, x = 6
or x + 2 = 0, then x = – 2
Hence x = 6, – 2.
