Question

State the role of the thymus as a lymphoid organ. Name the cells that are released from it and mention their function.

Short Note

Solution

The thymus is one of the primary lymphoid organs of the immune system. The maturation of lymphocytes occurs in the thymus. T-cells produced in the bone marrow get matured in the thymus and are released from here.
T- cells do not themselves produce antibodies, but help B-cells to produce them. They are also responsible for a cell-mediated immune response (CMI).
