Question

State the rules of service in a game of doubles.

Answer in Brief

Solution

The rules of service in a game of doubles are as follows:

  1. When the serving side has scored an even number of points or none at all during the game, a player from the serving side will serve from the appropriate service court.
  2. After the serving side has scored an odd number of points in that particular game, a player on the serving side is required to serve three from the left service court.
  3. The receiving team's player who served last must remain on the same service court from which he served. The recipient's partner will follow the opposite pattern.
  4. Until their side wins a point while serving, the players are not allowed to switch service courts.

Scoring and serving:

  1. A point is scored by the serving team when it wins a rally. Next, the alternate service court will be used by the server to serve once more.
  2. The receiving side is awarded a point in the event that they win a rally. The serving side will then switch to the receiving side.
