2. Candidates for President of India must meet the following qualifications:
   1. He or she must be a citizen of India.
   2. He or she must have completed 35 years.
   3. The candidate must be eligible for Lok Sabha membership.
   4. He/she cannot occupy any profit-making positions in the Central or State governments.
   5. The individual should not be a pronounced criminal under the law of the Land.

The President is the official (Constitutional) Head of the Government, but the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, who are accountable to Parliament, hold the vast powers associated with the President. The Prime Minister and Council of Ministers advise the President on his tasks, and the constitution requires the President to follow the recommendations of the Council of Ministers.
