Solution

Converting the given fractions into like fractions.

LCM of the denominators of 16 and 12

∴ LCM of 6 and 2 = 2×3 = 6

Now, we convert the given fractions into equivalent fractions with denominators 6.

So, 1×16×1=16 and 12=1×32×3=36

12-16=36-16=3-16=3÷26÷2=13  ....[ For reducing a fraction to its lowest terms, we divideits numerator and denominator by their HCF]
