Suggest any three ways by which a slum area can be improved.

1. With poor sanitation and close living quarters, sickness and disease are widespread in slums. Infection spreads quickly and this can prove fatal in the case of the young and weak. The main illnesses to affect slum life include measles, conjunctivitis, colds, flu, etc. People can be denied basic rights from the government, such as health care.
2. Residents are offered little or no security from the police force.
3. Children living in the slums have little or no education. The local schools do not accept these children easily. Any child from the slums who is accepted into school with the help of outside charities and organisations often chooses to work for money instead of attending school.
4. Alcoholism is a big problem in slum life.
