Question
Suggest two methods for increasing the size of landholdings.
Solution
Two methods are:
1. Consolidation of landholding, which means a reallocation of holdings which are fragmented due to the law of inheritance. This has taken place in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
2. Landholding can be increased if culturable wasteland can be brought under cultivation. The land is not being used at present due to constraints like lack of water, salinity or alkalinity of the soil, soil erosion, waterlogging, etc. can be reclaimed to bring it back under the plough.
