Question
Sunita purchases a bicycle for Rs. 660. She has paid a sale tax of 10%. Find the list price of the bicycle.
Solution
Let ₹ x be the list price of bicycle.
Sale tax = `x xx (10)/(100) = x/(10)`
Then `x + x/(10) = 660`
⇒ `(11x)/(10) = 660`
⇒ x = `(660 xx 10)/(11)`
⇒ x = ₹ 600.
