Question
The atomic number of an element X is 16.
(a) Write down the electronic configuration of X.
(b) What will be the valency of X ?
Short Note
Solution
Atomic No. of X = 16
Electronic configuration of X is
\[{\underset{2}{K} \underset{8}{L} \underset{6}{M}}\]
Here, the outermost orbit has 6 electrons. In order to make it 8, X will have to gain 2 electrons. So, the valency of X is 2.
