Question
The catalogue price of an article is Rs. 20,000. The dealer allows two successive discounts 15% and 10%. If sales tax at the rate of 10% is charged on the remaining amount. Find:
(i) the sales tax amount a customer has to pay.
(ii) the final total price that customer has to pay for the article.
Solution
Catalogue price = Rs. 20,000
Two successive discounts = 15% and 10%
Sale price = 20,000`(1-15/100)(1-10/100)`
`= 20,000xx17/20xx9/10`
Rate of sales tax = 10%
Sales tax = 10% of 15,300
=(10/100) x 15,300 = Rs. 1,530
Final total price = Rs. 15,300 + Rs. 1,530 = Rs. 16,830
