Question

The length of the rectangle is 5 more than twice its breadth. The perimeter of a rectangle is 52 cm, then find the length of the rectangle

Sum

Solution

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be x cm and y cm respectively.

According to the first condition,

The length of the rectangle is 5 more than twice its breadth.

∴ x = 2y + 5

∴ x – 2y = 5    ......(i)

According to the second condition,

Perimeter of rectangle is 52 cm.

∴ 2(x + y) = 52

∴ 2x + 2y = 52       .....(ii)

Adding equations (i) and (ii), we get

      x – 2y =   5
+ 2x + 2y = 52
   3x         = 57

∴ x = `57/3` = 19

∴ The length of the rectangle is 19 cm.
