Question

The linear equation that converts Fahrenheit (F) to Celsius (C) is given by the relation C = `(5F - 160)/9`. If the temperature is 35°C, what is the temperature in Fahrenheit?

Sum

Solution

Given relation is, C = `(5F - 160)/9`  ......(i)

⇒ 9C = 5F – 160

⇒ 5F = 9C + 160

⇒ F = `(9C + 160)/5`  .....(ii)

Given, C = 35°C, then from equation (ii), we get

F = `(9 xx 35 + 160)/5`

= `(315 + 160)/5`

= `475/5`

= 95°F
