Question
The normal pressure of air is 76 cm of mercury. Calculate the pressure in SI units.
[Density of mercury = 13600 kg/m3 and g = 10 m/s2]
Solution
Height of mercury column = h = 76 cm
h = 0.76 m
Density of mercury =ρ = 13600 kg/m3
Acceleration due to gravity = g = 10 m/s2
Pressure = P = ?
P = hρg
P = 0.76 × 13600 × 10 = 103360 N/m2
