Question
The point P (a, b) is first reflected in the origin and then reflected on the Y-axis to p’. If P’ has co-ordinates (3, – 4), evaluate a, b.
Solution
P(a, b) after reflection at the origin = (-a, -b) (-a, -b) after reflection on the Y-axis = p'(a - b)
According to question,
⇒ (a, -b) = (3, -4)
⇒ a = 3, -b = -4
⇒ a = 3, b = 4.
